Rhoda Bernard is a singer and a pianist. As a singer, she specializes in Jewish music in Yiddish and Hebrew, as well as in Jazz music. Rhoda received an Adult Education Certificate from New England Conservatory’s Extension Division in 1990 and a B.M. in Jazz Voice Performance from New England Conservatory in 1994. While at NEC, Rhoda studied with Dominique Eade, Ran Blake, Bevan Manson, John McNeil, Bob Moses, and Hankus Netsky. She credits Ran Blake with encouraging her to pursue Jewish music as a home repertoire.
Rhoda performs regularly with various klezmer ensembles and in small groups with klezmer musicians. Most of her performances take place at private parties and community functions. She studied Yiddish Language, Literature, and Culture at the Uriel Weinreich Program at Columbia University in 1994.
As a pianist, Rhoda enjoys classical music, and particularly Romantic music. Beethoven’s piano works are among her favorites.
