This calls for a musical!
Er, sorry, I got distracted. Nerdy wonk that I am, I am in the middle of My Hero Atul Gawande's new book, The Checklist Manifesto, which discusses the pros and cons of how medicine routinely denies that there can be ANY system for improving surgery, and how that is both true and false, because medicine is complex but not unknowable. Um, that made it sound riveting, I know.
Anyway, he also had a GREAT article in the New Yorker in December about experimentation in agriculture and health care- an anti-system, if you will, that you'll enjoy.
I'm still thinking about these issues: is the anti-system charter schools? Is the checklist equivalent the Standards? Read and we can discuss!
